Gynecology is an area of medical practice focused on addressing a woman’s reproductive health. Doctors who choose to specialize in gynecology go through advanced training in all aspects of reproductive function from adolescence through menopause and beyond.
Routine well-woman exams are the foundation of excellent women’s health. These visits are the setting to receive the screenings appropriate for your age and overall health. They are also an opportunity to discuss any areas of concern and ask questions you may have about any aspect of gynecology.
Some of the issues that women might encounter as they move through the phases of life include:
Most women benefit from an annual well-woman exam. This timeline allows Dr. Markidan a chance to evaluate your health and screen for a wide range of gynecologic conditions. The earlier most problems are detected, the more effective treatment can be.
If you are experiencing a gynecologic problem and are currently in treatment, or if the results of your routine screening reveal signs of concern, you may need to come in more frequently until the matter is resolved.
Teens and young women can begin coming in for routine care as early as 12. These early visits don’t need to include a pelvic exam or advanced screening unless you are sexually active or experiencing symptoms of a gynecologic condition.
If you would like to learn more about how gynecology can enhance your daily quality of life, call the office to schedule a visit. Online booking is also an option and takes just moments to complete.
Exams are tailored to the woman’s specific age and include an examination and counseling. For women under 21, a pelvic exam is typically not performed, unless there are specific concerns. Breast exams are also performed, including education on self-evaluation. Annual well-woman exams are also an opportunity for the physician to screen for family history and underlying concerns that the patient might want to discuss.
